SCHOOL BUS AIDE – 6.20
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:
Performs responsible human support work in assisting with the transportation of special population pupils to and from school; does related work as required. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the bus driver and Transportation Supervisor. This is a non-exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Providing help to the school bus driver in maintaining discipline; assisting special education students boarding and leaving the school bus. The School Bus Aide also…..
- Assists with loading, transporting and unloading of all students on the assigned bus;
- Assists students with special transportation needs such as wheelchairs, braces, crutches, etc.;
- Assists with the security of students on school buses and observes the special needs of individuals;
- Assists the driver in maintaining adequate discipline;
- Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of the transportation of special population students; ability to assist students with patience and understanding; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, public, associates and students; good physical and mental health.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
