Salem City Schools is looking for qualified applicants for the positon speech language pathologist substitute.

 

SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

 

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Performs difficult professional work delivering instructional and clinical services to speech/language impaired children; does related work as required.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services and School Principal.  This is an exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.  Employees holding exempt positions often are required to follow a flexible work schedule, which may include working extended hours to meet specific job responsibilities.  The contracted salary covers all hours worked.

 

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires standing, and walking; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

Locating, identifying and serving speech/language impaired persons within assigned caseload.

Implements screening procedures to locate speech/language impaired individuals in the public school system; The Speech Pathologist also……

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of the principals, practices and procedures of speech and language diagnosis and therapy; thorough knowledge of casework methods and procedures; thorough knowledge of local, state and federal resources, programs, procedures, laws, rules and regulations; ability to conduct interviews, assessments and diagnosis effectively and analyze needs and problems objectively; ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff and administration.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement in speech pathology and some experience as a classroom teacher.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

In order to practice speech-language pathology in Virginia public elementary and secondary schools, an individual shall hold a valid school speech-language pathologist license issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology andSpeech-Language Pathology.
