Salem City Schools is seeking qualified applicants to serve as the Head Swimming and Diving Coach for the 2024-2025 school year.

 

 

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:

 

Develops and maintains a high-quality athletics program in the sport served which emphasizes correct and proper techniques, sportsmanship, safety, and healthy competitive attitudes and which affords positive interscholastic athletics experiences to the participating athletes.  In carrying out these duties, the athletic head coach will demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, human relations and be a positive role model for all students.  Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Principal and Athletic Director. Employees holding exempt positions often are required to follow a flexible work schedule, which may include working extended hours to meet specific job responsibilities.  The contracted salary covers all hours worked.

 

 

 

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

 

 

Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, and techniques used in coaching; knowledge of VHSL bylaws, rules, and regulations; a high degree of oral and written communication skills; outstanding leadership and personal characteristics; a high degree of  ability to motivate others; a high degree of stamina must be exhibited from past experiences as well as the ability to work with and through others.

 

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

 

 

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a graduation from an accredited college or university and considerable experience in playing and/or coaching the sport being coached; licensed teacher preferred; non-licensed personnel may be used when licensed personnel are not available or with special approval of the Superintendent; demonstrated ability to work with others.
