Adult Education Instructor- GED

Job Title: Adult Basic Education Instructor                              Supervisor: Program Manager

Job Classification: Part-time at $28.00 per hour                   Contract Length: July 1st – June 30th                                                                                               (hours vary depending on position)

Job Summary:

Region Five Adult Education is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Adult Education ABE GED Instructor. This position will be responsible for teaching two days per week in the morning at the Salem City Public Library. The Adult Education ABE Instructor is responsible for classroom instruction and evaluating students' progress in attaining goals and objectives. Self-motivated and able to work at a standalone satellite site in the region. Ability to manage and maintain a professional classroom, providing instruction to adult participants whose basic skill ranges vary. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel for completing lesson plans and attendance forms required. Possess working skills in the use of technology to deliver Distance Education instruction, communicate via e-mail, and teach basic computer skills to the adult learner. Additionally, this position will report to the Regional Program Manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in a related field and have prior experience teaching basic academic skills to adult learners in an open-entry, multi-level classroom.

Additional Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and experience in teaching core skills and specific subject matter required.

Language Skills

Speak, read, write, and listen in the English language. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Physical Demands

Work is typically performed in a classroom or office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects to a light to medium weight. A full range of hand and finger motions may be utilized for data entry purposes.

If the job involves driving, physical requirements include the ability to operate a vehicle and sit for extended periods.
